Best of the Season For the Indians, 2007 was a season of highs (beating Courtland, winning the third regional championship in a row) and lows (injuries, a heartbreaking loss is the state semifinals). We asked two coaches, a preeminent stat man, and a sportswriter to hit the highlights Best win:
Charles Blankenship, statistician: 13-12 comeback victory over Lafayette in the Regional Final
Best catch:
CB: Although I wasn’t there to see it in person, it has to be Emmett Brown’s 43-yd TD reception from Shawn Minor with 3:47 to go in the win over Lafayette.
Biggest play of the year:
CB: Same as above.
Biggest disappointment:
CB: 33-21 loss to Sherando in State Semi-Finals
Best newcomer:
CB: Josh Morris
Biggest improvement by a player from 2006:
CB: Shawn Minor’s move to starting quarterback where he played extremely well for a sophomore. He was a leader by example and his excellent passing and running skills were a definite plus for the year.
Funniest moment:
CB: When Deon Berry was well on his way to a TD run at Bluestone before someone turned off the power and ended the game early.
Most likely to make a special play not mentioned in newspaper:
CB: Shawn Henderson and Tahliek Taliaferro
Most likely to take a licking and get back up:
CB: Taron Hampton
Most likely to come back bigger and badder next year:
CB: Mike Cable, Hunter Gordon & Jay Jackson
Most cerebral:
CB: Derek Christovich and his younger brother Collin
Most comical:
EH: Alex Spitz
Most likely to exaggerate his football stories to his wife and kids someday:
CB: Kwamaine Marshall
Most likely to go into coaching:
CB: Kevin Price
