Ethan Lewis, Sr. (P/CF)

2007 season: The team went 20-5, and lost to Waynesboro in the first round of the States..

Greatest challenge this season: Blending new players with the veterans

Head Coach: Marie Crump
Key returning players:
Shannon Summers, Sr. (1B)
Jessica Glidewell, Jr. (3B)
Carly Davis, Jr. (2B)
Kelsey Waugh, So. (Infield)
Liz Sill, So. (C)

2007 season: The Lady Indians went 20 -3 and were named Southside District Regular Season and Tournament Champions. The team lost in the Region Semi-Finals to New Kent.

Outlook for this season: This year’s Lady Indians return five players with varsity experience and have eight newcomers who will have to step in and fill key positions. The newcomers are up from last year’s successful JV and Junior High teams, but lack varsity level experience. “We have some potential and talent,” said Crump, “but it’s going to take time for us to adjust to what is basically a ‘new’ team.”

Head Coach: Wayne Hagy
Key returning players: Captains Tristan Luxner, Kevin Price, and Zach Wood as well as Zac Love, Aaron Snellings, Joey Bungard

2007 season: The team went 14-4 including loss to AAA Midlothian and eventual AA State Champion Riverbend.

Goal for the 2008 season: “I would expect to win our District title as undefeated champions of the Southside District and truly make a solid run and winning the Regional Title,” said Hagy. “We will need solid play from both the starters as well as the bench. We have a very young team (eight freshman and seven sophomores) that has all of the talent in the world but will need to come together as a team and play to their potential to be successful at winning a Regional title.

Head Coach: Ernie Henderson
Key returning athletes:
Shawn Minor, high jump and sprints; Eric Watts, field events; Taron Hampton, sprints; Shawn Henderson, sprints; Phillip Livesay, shot

Goal for this season: To be District Champions

Biggest challenge: “This is a very young team and we must continue to improve
as the season goes along,” said Henderson.

boys track
(distance runners)

Head Coach: Elliot Gibbs
2007 season: The boys ended up as District Runner ups while the girls were District Champs.

Key returning runners:
Eric MacPherson, Johnny Tillman, Philip Barden, Ashley Stewart, Ana Tucker, Kendel Wynne

One challenge they anticipate facing this season:
“The heat of summer arriving way too soon,” said Gibbs. “My runners compete during all weather conditions but many of them perform at the best when the air temperature is between 50 – 75 degrees. When the ‘heat is on’ it makes for a rather taxing experience.”

» Blessed Sacrament Huguenot Varsity Golf

Head Coach: Tom Hackett
2007 season: The team finished 6-3-1, which was the best record in school history. The team finished second in league play (Virginia Commonwealth Conference) and second in the conference tournament. Matt Amonette was the tournament individual champion, seven shots ahead of the nearest competitor.

Top returning players: Seniors Matt Amonette, Jacob Cornwell, and Bruce DeMars; Junior Erin Kerr; Sophomore Eddie Schneider.

Goal for the season: This year’s theme is lean and mean. What the team lacks in depth it makes up with seasoned players, many of whom are completing their high school careers.

Greatest challenge:  “Lack of depth will be an issue since matches count the best four of six scores. If we have absences, then the remaining players must all play well. With our three seniors leaving at the end of the year, our challenge will be to bring along our younger players and recruit some new talent for next year. We look forward to having fun this year and sending our seniors off with a conference win.”
