It amazes me how you fair weather fans get selective a case of selective memory after just one loss. Yes, Powhatan Football has a great tradition and we expect to win every Friday night. That is what makes PHS one of the premier programs in the State of Virginia. But you can’t win them all and some nights when you are not on your “A” game it is going to catch up with you. For the people on here to criticize the coaching staff is absolutely ridiculous! This is the same coaching staff who has multiple consecutive Regional Titles as well as two State Championships, and believe me, those feats don’t come easy from year to year. If any of you were any more than an armchair monday morning quarterback, YOU would have almost 200 career wins, be considered one of the best coaches in the state, and your opinion would be relevant. But your not, so until one of you actually coaches somewhere other than on the fields of PYAA I would lighten up on the comments and see how the entire season plays out. I bet it ends in another Southside Championship at the very least.

Easy guys. Powhatan had one scrimage before they took the field against a Louisa team that had 2 scrimages and played a live game last week. This years team is young at many positions. They have had alot to overcome before the summer camp even opened up. As parents or loyal fans we do not know the many issues that the players are overcoming during the season. From what I have seen the last two years, the coaching staff will evaluate each game, make changes and get better each week. I am very proud of the players and coaching staff during all the wins and few loses. I am grateful of the fan support at the home and away games. I am disapointed in how the fans will turn during rough times. It looks like many fans give up on the program the few times it loses. The last 2 years against Monticelo it looked like half the stands either left or started to boo in the 3rd quarter. Lets everybody work hard. Coaches work hard at preparing the players, players work hard and play with passion each Friday night and parents and fans support and chear no matter what the score is.
Good Luck INDIANS!!

The Indians had a rough first game. If we win the game none of this is brought up.The Indians will regroup this week and play much better friday night.I can’t belive you treat a coach like that for his team losing one game. You would have no problem if the same 11 players played all game and got the W.

I have been a proud supporter of the Powhatan Indians football team for many years and I am also a former player. I can count on my hands the number of games I have missed since I graduated in 92. The coaching staff has done an outstanding job over the years and I still believe in them and support them 100% They see the players in practice every day and they know who is ready to play and who is not. They lose one game and everyone is on there case about not coaching the team the right way. The fans in the stands need to be just that, fans in the stands and leave the coaching to a very knowledgeable coaching staff.

I think all of you so called coaches that HAD STELLAR PYAA careers and think you know what’s best for the team should move your kids to BSH where you can watch real coaches coach real football every Friday night and yes that is sarcasm.
I believe every coach in the Powhatan program is TRYING to do what’s best for the PROGRAM and not individual kids. Maybe just maybe you’re not good at judging talent and maybe coach Woodson is and he actually knows what he’s doing. But if you can match his resume as one of the winningest coaches in VHSL history then you should be coaching. So quit your high paying job and go coach and win regional championships year after year for 12 cents and hour or whatever they make.
Oh and on a final note maybe the kids that have the talent to play at the college level really don’t.

the boys last night played ok but they need to pick it up but yes i think more players need to see the feild some of these kids want to play ball for a top school after highschool and have the talent but may not play cause of who no’s wat . also that number 7 kid at middle linebacker had a good game but it was disapointing to see him taken out for wat reason? some of the kids need to play and get some feeling for the game

y did they take out number 7 the linbacker that kid has alot of talent and they should use him more on defense.

Everybody relax. PHS football has a very young team this year. Don’t go saying that the people on the sidelines deserved to play. You have no clue what goes on in practice. Granted, probably all of the kids work hard everyday in practice, but there is the possibility that they weren’t ready to start. Every year there are numerous players who play both ways and all special teams. Now, they lose the first regular season game, and people freak out. They’ll make changes where changes are need to made, I’m sure Friday will be spent watching the film. The players just have to hold there heads up and remember to get better each day at practice. Don’t give up and try to make plans for a coach that has 199 career wins. Also, don’t give up on a program that has established it’s self as one of the best in Richmond area, and in the Whole State of Virginia.

Couldn’t agree with you more anonymous. Last
nights loss can and should be blamed on poor
coaching. If you’re gonna play kids on both sides
of the ball, and least give them a break for a play or two. Send in some of the other fresh and
TALENTED young men who are standing on the sidelines just itching to get in a game. I love my Indians football, but seriously question the
choices being made by the coach.

I watched last night’s game and was sorely dissapointed.....for the players. Jim Woodsois certainly a good coach but has had the luxury of a fine team of players in recent years which he’s lost. I respect the fact that he needs to play his two “best” players as much as possible but I think that using only 11 players from the entire team is a losing proposition for him and will continue to erode the moral of the team and fans. It’s as if he believes that he only has two players that can play football. Comments in the stands were critical and for the first time, I agreed. I know he has more talent standing on the sidelines....I’ve seen them play in years past before high school, one in particular has a record as a Quarterback that is well respected. I remember his last game....the crowd in the stands chanting his name over and over. He was a motivator for the team and a wise quarterback. We all questioned why he wasn’t useing other talent. You cannot cultivate a winning team on 2 players alone. Coach, I know you were dissapointed in the game last night, but we in the stands were dissapointed in you. USE WHAT YOU HAVE.
