Facing a murderous schedule and needing a convincing win, the Blessed Sacrament Huguenot boys varsity basketball team traveled to Kenston Forest last Wednesday night. The Knights struggled in a 62-58 home win over Brunswick Academy last Monday in a game “I thought we should have won much more handily,” said Head Coach Ben Pomeroy, and used the motivation of that less-than-stellar performance to throttle the Kavaliers 66-38. The Kavaliers hung tough for the first quarter, trailing by 21-16, but the Knights defense and fast break began to take its toll in the second stanza with the BSH boys taking a 42-25 lead at the half and expanding that to a 29 point edge at the end of three quarters.

However, according to Coach Pomeroy, the telling statistic was the balanced scoring BSH produced. Junior John Moore found his long distance stroke for the second consecutive game, knocking down three long balls and contributing 11 points. Trevor Gilliam added his steady ten points and seven other Knights earned entries in the score book. Of those, junior Chris O’Hara’s 14 points might have been the most significant. “Balanced scoring is so important for our kids,” Coach Pomeroy said “and it looks like Chris has really stepped up.”

With the goal of maintaining their current position as the number four seed in the upcoming VCC tournament, the Knights face 23-1 Tidewater Academy Friday night, travel to Brunswick for a rematch on Saturday and close out their regular season with a visit to Fuqua on Monday.
