PHS athletes honored

On Jan. 15, parents, coaches and players gathered in the Powhatan High School auditorium for the 2007 Fall Sports Banquet. Principal Rick Cole and Athletic Director James Woodson both saluted the work that the students gave both in competition and the classroom. A special emphasis was made to recognize the support parents have given to the sports programs and their student athletes over the season.

During the fall season, there were over 200 athletes who competed for Powhatan in seven sports winning six Southside District championships, one Region I championship and one Region I runner-up.  Athletes were honored not only for their performance on the field but in the classroom as well.  Of the 200 plus student athletes, 53 were honored with a Virginia High School League Award for Academic Excellence by maintaining a 3.0 grade point average during the sports season.  Below are the names of those recognized for their scholastic achievement and the winners of post-season awards for their sport:
