Blessed Sacrament vs. Fuqua

April 24 at Stonehenge Golf and Country Club

Final Score: BSH 185; Fuqua 188

BSH record is now 5-2

In a rain shortened season, BSH improved its record to 5 -2 with a final match win over Fuqua School. 

Matt Amonette was again the match medalist and continues to be the favorite to win the individual title at the upcoming conference tourney.

Senior Bruce DeMars’ score of 44 was the deciding factor in winning the match.

Powhatan Junior High softball remains undefeated

The Powhatan Junior High School Softball team still remains undefeated after beating Nottoway 17-1 and beating Lunenburg 18-3 last week.

Sierra Ford dominated the mound on Wednesday allowing only one hit and striking out 10 of 18 batters.

Paige Kern started off Wednesday’s offensive with a double that was followed by six Indian Runs. The Indians never looked back.

Thursday the girls traveled to Lunenburg and were strong at the bats again.

Kendra Bodette went 3 for 3, Madison Tilgman was 2 for 2, Courtney Deal was 2 for 3, and Allison Stokes laid down a perfect bunt going 1 for 1.

Sierra Ford started on the mound allowing no hits and striking out 4 of 7 batters. Madison Tilgman closed the game adding another win to the Indians record.  The girls’ regular season record is now 7-0. 

Junior High baseball team wallops Salem Christian 23-0

The Powhatan Junior High Baseball team traveled to Goochland to play a young and energized Salem Christian team. The Indians started out with a bang and never looked back, defeating Salem Christian 23-0. The Indians were lead by Matt Lyman going 2-2 with 2 RBI and a triple and Tyler Allen who went 2 for 2 with two doubles and 4 RBI. Also, the Indians were lead by strong pitching performances by Luke Scherzer, Gordon Clark, and Cody Haislip holding Salem Christian to 1 hit and producing 11 strikeouts as a group.

The team continued their winning ways by defeating a tough and talented Central team 15-1. The Indians were lead by a brilliant pitching performance by Tanner Phillips going the entire game, allowing only two hits with six strikeouts and no walks. Phillips also helped out his cause by going 2-3 with 2 RBI.

Also leading the Indians was Matt Lyman going 3-4 with two doubles and Alex Higuchi going 2-3 with two doubles.

The team traveled to Colonial Heights to play a double-header against a hardworking Colonial team.

In the first game, the Indians started out slow but really got the bats going in the third inning and never looked back. In the last two innings the Indians put up six runs and defeated the Colonial Heights team 6-2.

Leading the Indians was a young and upcoming player named Logan Kennedy who went 2-3 and was fearless on the base paths. Also, leading the charge was another young and talented player, Nick Muschiao, who went 2-3 with two singles.

In the second game the Indians got their bats started early by putting up four runs in the first inning on the way to a 12-2 victory over Colonial Heights. The Indians were led by Alex Higuchi who went 3-3 and had three stolen bases and Tyler Robinson who went 2-2 with two singles.  The Indians ran their record to 2-0 in the conference and 7-1 overall.
